UPDATE ON COVID-19 – Wednesday, April 8th, 2020

DUFFERIN CARE CENTRE

To all Family Members:

The Dufferin Care Center staff extend their appreciation to all families members and friends of our residents for their patience, understanding and words of support during this challenging time. This is a difficult time for us all.

Status Update

All residents are being monitored closely and their care needs are being met in the best manner possible.

The latest swab results show an additional positive result, which brings the total to five residents, all of whom are now in isolation. We are relocating our latest resident to the same unit as other affected residents.  We continue to monitor our residents and should any be symptomatic, the resident is swabbed. They are placed in isolation as a precaution until lab result are known, and families are informed.

We are monitoring staff closely and following up with sick staff who are at home, in self isolation, on a daily basis. We have had a total of five staff members COVID+ since March 20, 2020.

Communication

We continue to communicate with all families via e-mail and will place daily phone calls to family members of the four directly impacted residents. If there are any changes in other residents,  families will be updated immediately. We also communicate with our affected staff daily.

We continue to post daily updates on the Retirement Concepts Website and Facebook Page.

We also are in frequent conversations with Fraser Health Authority representatives daily. Their support, advice and direction is truly appreciated.

Lockdown at Dufferin Care Centre

The community remains on mandatory lockdown as per the Order of the Medical Health Officer.

We are following Dr. Bonnie Henry’s order to stop sharing staff between facilities.

Staffing

Today we are again staffed adequately in CARE and Laundry departments. We are currently short staffed in our Recreation, Housekeeping, and Dietary department. Today is our fourth day of “outsourced” meals from Guildford Seniors Village. We have developed a system of receiving the food and it is working well at DCC.

Supplies

We continue to monitor our supplies closely. We have received emergency supplies through our Corporate Procurement as well as Fraser Health.

Teamwork

Our staff continue to show tremendous dedication and commitment in caring for our residents. We want to express our sincere thanks to the staff at Guildford Seniors Village and to our Pandemic Response Team for supporting us during this challenging time.
