UPDATE ON COVID-19 – Wednesday, APRIL 15TH, 2020

DUFFERIN CARE CENTRE

To all Family Members:

We typically open this email by suggesting to families that we are grateful for your support, but please  know how much it TRULY does mean to have your   ooperation and understanding during this difficult period, as we care for your loved ones.

Status Update

All residents continue to be monitored closely and their care needs are being met in the best manner possible.

The total number of affected residents remains at eight today, all of whom remain in isolation on the first floor. We continue to monitor our residents, and should anyone be symptomatic, they are swabbed, placed in isolation as a precaution until lab result are known, and families are informed. The number of COVID positive staff who are home and in self-isolation, remains at four. We are communicating with them three times a week.

We continue to employ a number of additional protocols, including appropriate application and removal of personal protective equipment (PPE), and the use of individual slings (cloth component of a personal lift) and closely monitor hand hygiene practices. Staff remove any outside clothing and footwear before entering the premises, they are screened upon entrance to the building and midway through their shift, and they are also working within an assigned unit and not multiple units.

Communication

Communicate with all families continues via e-mail. Daily phone calls to family members of the eight directly impacted residents continue. If there are any changes in other residents, families will be updated immediately. We also communicate with our affected staff three times per week. Please refer to our daily updates on the Retirement Concepts Website and Facebook Page. We continue to be in frequent conversations with Fraser Health Authority representatives. Their support, advice and direction is truly appreciated.

Lockdown at Dufferin Care Centre

The community remains on mandatory lockdown as per the Order of the Medical Health Officer. We are following Dr. Bonnie Henry’s order to stop sharing staff between facilities.

Staffing

Today we are fully staffed in the Laundry department, but remain short staffed in Dietary, CARE (1RCA) Housekeeping and Recreation departments. Today is our ninth day of “outsourced” meals from Guildford Seniors Village.

Supplies

We continue to monitor our supplies closely. We have received emergency supplies through our Corporate Procurement as well as Fraser Health.

Teamwork

Our staff continue to show tremendous dedication and commitment in caring for our residents – but we also want to thank staff at Guildford Seniors Village our Pandemic Response Team for supporting us during this challenging time.
