UPDATE ON COVID-19 – Tuesday, April 7th, 2020

DUFFERIN CARE CENTRE

To all Family Members:

During this difficult time, the staff at Dufferin Care Center wish to express thanks to families of residents for their patience and understanding and hope you too are staying healthy.

Status Update

We continue to monitor all residents, including the four who have tested positive, and remain in isolation.

We have swabbed 6 other residents who are showing symptoms and have placed them in isolation, out of an abundance of caution – and their families have been notified.

We have also received a report that an RCA and cook have both tested positive – bringing the total number of staff who have tested positive, to five.

Communication

Over the last several days, some family members of Dufferin residents have contacted us to ensure we are doing everything possible to keep their loved-one safe during this very challenging period. We know this is a very anxious time all involved, and it’s understandable that you would have questions about protocols and procedures that have been undertaken.

Please know that that we – just like all other care providers in the region – are following the directives of the Fraser Health Authority (FHA), to the letter. The FHA has provided us with an infection control specialist who is overseeing the site with respect to infection control, and is providing daily direction to mitigate the risk of spread.

Should you have specific questions or concerns about current directives, the most appropriate way to address those questions is by reaching out to (604) 930-5405 at the FHA licensing body or FHA public Health at (604) 949-7200.

Lockdown at Dufferin Care Centre

The community remains on mandatory lockdown as per the Order of the Medical Health Officer.

Staffing

The clinical team is fully staffed today. We continue to “outsource” meals from Guildford Seniors Village. We would like to thank everyone at Guildford Seniors Village for their dedication and commitment in this time of need.  Food service is going well and all dietary requirements continue to be met.

Supplies

We continue to monitor our supplies closely. We have received emergency supplies through our Corporate Procurement as well as Fraser Health.

Teamwork

Our staff continue to show tremendous dedication and commitment in caring for our residents. We want to express our sincere thanks to the staff at Guildford Seniors Village and to our Pandemic Response Team for supporting us during this challenging time.
