UPDATE ON COVID-19 – Tuesday, APRIL 14TH, 2020

DUFFERIN CARE CENTRE

To all Family Members:

To families who have requested window visits, we thank you for understanding that we don’t have the staff to facilitate these activities at this time. Should the situation change, we will notify families.

Status Update

All residents continue to be monitored closely and their care needs are being met in the best manner possible.

The total number of residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 has increased by one, and now totals eight – all of whom are now residing in isolation, on the first floor. We continue to monitor our residents, and should anyone be symptomatic, they are swabbed, placed in isolation as a precaution until lab result are known, and families are informed.

Please know that staff continue to diligently follow all appropriate protocols related to application and removal of personal protective equipment (PPE), including the use of individual slings (cloth component of a personal lift) and closely monitoring staff hand hygiene practices. Staff remove any outside clothing and footwear before entering the premises, they are screened for their temperature upon entering the building and midway through their shift, and they are also working within an assigned unit and not multiple units.

The number of COVID-positive staff remains at four, and each remain at home, in self-isolation.

We continue to screen our staff upon entrance into our building and midway through their shift.

Communication

We continue to communicate with all families via e-mail and will place daily phone calls to family

members of the eight directly impacted residents. If there are any changes in other residents, families will be updated immediately. We also communicating with staff who remain in self-isolation on a daily basis.

Please refer to our daily updates on the Retirement Concepts Website and Facebook Page.

We continue to be in frequent communication with Fraser Health Authority representatives.  Their support, advice and direction is truly appreciated.

Lockdown at Dufferin Care Centre

The community remains on mandatory lockdown as per the Order of the Medical Health Officer.  We continue to follow Dr. Bonnie Henry’s order to stop sharing staff between facilities.

Staffing

Today we are fully staffed in the Laundry and CARE department and remain short-staffed in Dietary, Housekeeping and Recreation departments. Today is our eighth day of “outsourced” meals from Guildford Seniors Village. We are becoming more efficient as time passes.

Supplies

We continue to monitor our supplies closely. We have received emergency supplies through our Corporate Procurement as well as Fraser Health.

Teamwork

Our staff continue to show tremendous dedication to the care of our residents, and their efforts are supported by our Pandemic Response Team and staff at Guildford Seniors Village, who are assisting with outsourced meals.
