UPDATE ON COVID-19 – Thursday, APRIL 9TH, 2020

DUFFERIN CARE CENTRE

To all Family Members:

Today, we regret to inform you that one of our COVID+ residents passed away last evening April 8, 2020. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family during this difficult time.

We recognize that this news will raise the level of concern and anxiousness among residents and family members, but please know, the health and safety of your loved one is our priority and we are doing everything possible to ensure they are being cared for in the best manner possible.

We appreciate all suggestions and recommendations from families, and we continue to follow FHA guidelines.

Status Update

We continue to monitor residents and should any be symptomatic, the resident is swabbed, placed in isolation as a precaution until lab results are known, and families are informed.

We are monitoring staff closely and following up with all five staff members who have tested positive and remain in self isolation.

Communication

We continue to communicate with all families via e-mail and will place daily phone calls to family members of the four directly impacted residents. If there are any changes in other residents,  families will be updated immediately. We also communicate with our affected staff daily.

Please see our daily updates on the Retirement Concepts Website and Facebook Page.

We are communicating with Fraser Health Authority representatives daily. Their support, advice and direction is truly appreciated.

Lockdown at Dufferin Care Centre

The community remains on mandatory lockdown as per the Order of the Medical Health Officer.

We are following Dr. Bonnie Henry’s order to stop sharing staff between facilities.

Staffing

Today we are again staffed adequately in CARE and Laundry departments. We are currently short staffed in our Recreation, Housekeeping, and Dietary department. Today is Day 5 of “outsourced” meals from Guildford Seniors Village. As each day passes, we are becoming more efficient and effective in receiving and delivering meals to our residents.

Supplies

We continue to monitor our supplies closely. We have received emergency supplies through our Corporate Procurement as well as Fraser Health.

Teamwork

Our staff continue to show tremendous dedication and commitment in caring for our residents. The staff at Guildford Seniors Village have demonstrated their dedication to serving us at Dufferin Care Center and we are extremely grateful for that. Our Corporate Emergency Response Team provides daily support, supplies and recommendations to us at DCC.
