UPDATE ON COVID-19 – Thursday, April 2, 2020

DUFFERIN CARE CENTRE

To all Family Members:

During this difficult time, the staff at Dufferin care Center want to thank family members or our residents for their patience and understanding of the situation.

Status Update

All residents are being monitored closely and their care needs are being met in the best manner possible.

At this time, all of the original 8 residents who were in contact with COVID-19 remain symptom-free.

Unfortunately, lab results from a swab have revealed an additional resident has tested positive for COVID-19. That resident and two others who previously tested positive remain in isolation.

We were notified this morning that our second Dietary Aide has tested positive. We are reviewing staff schedules to identify any contact that may have occurred with other staff members. We are monitoring staff closely and following up with the other staff member who remains at home, in self-isolation.

Communication

We continue to communicate with all families via e-mail and place phone calls to family members of the eight directly impacted residents – on Monday’s, Wednesday’s, and Friday’s. The families of those who have tested positive are being updated with regular phone calls as well.

Should there be a change in the condition of other residents, their respective families will be contacted immediately.

We continue to post daily updates on the Retirement Concepts Website and Facebook Page.

Lockdown at Dufferin Care Centre

The community remains on mandatory lockdown as per the Order of the Medical Health Officer.

We are following Dr. Bonnie Henry’s order to stop sharing staff between facilities.

Staffing

Today we are again staffed adequately in CARE, Housekeeping and Laundry Departments. We are currently short-staffed in the Dietary Department and our corporate human resources department is working to recruit more kitchen staff.  In the meantime, all members of the team are working together to ensure the best care possible during this time.

Supplies

We continue to monitor our supplies closely. Once again, we wish to express our thanks to families who have donated thermometers and other supplies to us. We are grateful for your generosity.

Teamwork

Our staff continue to show tremendous dedication and commitment in caring for our residents.
