UPDATE ON COVID-19 – Monday, April 6th, 2020

DUFFERIN CARE CENTRE

To all Family Members:

To family members who leave food, flowers and cards for their loved ones, we wish to inform you that effective immediately, this will no longer be permitted. We recognize that these gestures mean a great deal, but it is a step intended to keep residents as safe as possible. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Status Update

All residents are being monitored closely and their care needs are being met in the best manner possible.

The latest swab results show an additional positive result, which brings the total to four residents, all of whom are now in isolation. We continue to monitor our residents and should any be symptomatic, the resident is swabbed, they are placed in isolation as a precaution until lab result are known, and families are informed.

We are monitoring staff closely and following up with sick staff who are at home, in self isolation, on a daily basis.

Communication

We continue to communicate with all families via e-mail and will place daily phone calls to family members of the four directly impacted residents. If there are any changes in other residents,  families will be updated immediately.

We continue to post daily updates on the Retirement Concepts Website and Facebook Page.

Lockdown at Dufferin Care Centre

The community remains on mandatory lockdown as per the Order of the Medical Health Officer.

We are following Dr. Bonnie Henry’s order to stop sharing staff between facilities.

Staffing

Today we are again staffed adequately in CARE, Housekeeping and Laundry departments. We are currently short staffed in our Recreation department and remain extremely short staffed in our Dietary department. Today is our second day of “outsourced” meals from Guildford Seniors Village. We have developed a system of receiving the food and it is working well at DCC.

Supplies

We continue to monitor our supplies closely. We have received emergency supplies through our Corporate Procurement as well as Fraser Health.

Teamwork

Our staff continue to show tremendous dedication and commitment in caring for our residents. We want to express our sincere thanks to the staff at Guildford Seniors Village and to our Pandemic Response Team for supporting us during this challenging time.
