UPDATE ON COVID-19 – Monday, April 13th, 2020

DUFFERIN CARE CENTRE

To all Family Members:

We know that not being able to visit with loved ones at the Dufferin Care Centre during this period is difficult, and we thank you for your kindness and understanding.

Also, please note this communication material is intended to provide an overarching update to families on the status of the community. Should you require additional details, please communicate by email. In doing so, please understand, it may take a day or two to respond to your email.

We understand how difficult this situation is for everyone involved, and the team is working as diligently as they can with FHA, to protect and reduce the spread of this virus in the home.

Status Update

All residents continue to be monitored closely and their care needs are being met in the best manner possible.

The total number of residents who have tested positive, remains at seven today, while the number of staff who remain home and in self-isolation remains at four. Two staff members who are fully recovered, have returned to work.

We continue to monitor our residents, and should any be symptomatic, the resident is swabbed, placed in isolation as a precaution until lab result are known, and families are informed.

We continue to screen our staff upon entrance into our building and midway through their shift.

Communication

We continue to communicate with all families via e-mail and will place daily phone calls to family members of the seven directly impacted residents. If there are any changes in other residents,  families will be updated immediately.

We are communicating with staff who are in self-isolation on a daily basis.

We also are in frequent communication with Fraser Health Authority representatives. Their support, advice and direction is truly appreciated.

Please refer to our daily updates on the Retirement Concepts Website and Facebook Page.

Lockdown at Dufferin Care Centre

The community remains on mandatory lockdown as per the Order of the Medical Health Officer.

We are following Dr. Bonnie Henry’s order to stop sharing staff between facilities.

Staffing

Today we are fully staffed in the Laundry department but remain short staffed in Dietary,  Recreation and CARE departments. Today is our seventh day of “outsourced” meals from Guildford Seniors Village. Everything is going well.

Supplies

We continue to monitor our supplies closely. We have received emergency supplies through our Corporate Procurement as well as Fraser Health.

Teamwork

Staff continue to show tremendous dedication. We also wish to thank staff at Guildford Seniors Village and to our Pandemic Response Team for supporting us during this challenging time.
