Hello Everyone,                                                                                                                                June 17 2020

We continue to appreciate all that you and your loved ones are doing to heed the precautions put in place to alleviate risk of exposure to COVID-19. We are relieved to tell you that there are no cases of reported outbreak nor signs nor symptoms of COVID-19 in any of our residents or staff here at Nanaimo Seniors’ Village.

We know everyone is very concerned about the inability to visit your loved ones. We continue to keep up to date with LTC and Island Health. They have reached out to the MHOs and are hopeful that the guidelines will be finalized within the week. We already have a plan in place to welcome visitors.  As soon as the pathway is cleared to organize visits, family members will be advised immediately.

Again this weekend the Cars4covid Care Home Cruise will drive by to show appreciation for Essential workers, provide enjoyment for the residents and staff and raise awareness for foundation for COVID-19 research. They have set up the tour to come by our community at NSV every second Saturday evening at 6:00pm. Decals for min. donation of $5.00 are available at reception.  Building community is very important and if anyone has any connections to resources that you feel would be of benefit to enhance and provide enjoyment, please do not hesitate to contact us.

COMPLEX CARE:

This week in Complex Care, recreation (based on current staff capacity) will be implementing small group programs with maximum number of 5 people due to social/physical distancing guidelines. Programs range from exercise/stretch; meditation, trivia, name that tune, gardening, show and tell, armchair travel, singalongs, news and views and reminiscing. Program implementation will be based on staffing capacity. When the weather is warm, we do try to facilitate these groups in the courtyards to encourage fresh air and social connections (within the guidelines). With the inclusion of these programs we will continue the facetime/skype and phone calls on a weekly basis with immediate family (1-4 people/connection) within our 20mins window. We appreciate the opportunity to get to know you better and build our relationships.

We are still encouraging family members and loved ones to connect with your family member via telephone call, or FACETIME or SKYPE.  To inquire about facetime/skype or phone calls or if you want to write a letter or send a picture for us to print, please contact the Recreation Department in Complex Care by email at: nsvrecreation@retirementconcepts.com or call 250-760-2616. For Assisted and Independent Living, you can contact our Manager of Recreation Therapy, Tracey Leslie at tleslie@retirementconcepts.com or call 250-760-2316 and we would be happy to do that for you.

Stay safe everyone,

From the Leadership Team at Nanaimo Seniors’ Village
