Hello everyone,                                                                                                                                June 23, 2020

Father’s Day celebration went well. Pizza, beer and root beer floats were a hit this past Sunday!

We appreciate all that you and your loved ones are doing to heed the precautions put in place to alleviate risk of exposure to COVID-19.  We are relieved to tell you that there are no cases of reported outbreak nor signs nor symptoms of COVID–19 in any of our residents or staff here at Nanaimo Seniors’ Village.

We are on a weekly call with Vancouver Island Health Authority. They have advised that they have created an assessment tool with algorithm scores to determine eligibility for essential visitors. This tool should be available in the next few days. Island Health has committed to providing the guideline to us along with communications for families.  We will follow all of the recommendations for screening and visits which will be prearranged, and one at a time in a separate room. We are very hopeful we can roll this out the week of June 29th.

We are also awaiting guidelines from Dr. Bonnie Henry regarding non-essential visitors and the reinstatement of hairdressing services at NSV.

After an exhaustive search we are pleased to announce we have a new Support Services Manager Terri McLachlan. She is very experienced and knowledgeable with a background in managing in LTC and hospital. Terri will be in charge of housekeeping, and food services.

Update from Recreation:

Father’s Day enjoyed Tim Hortons Coffee and Timbits in all three buildings and few giveaways including ball hats, cowboy hats, waist pouches and fancy fun colourful sunglasses. The men enjoyed the treat!

Recreation begins to re-instate small groups (max of 5 people) in AL/IL later this week following physical distance guidelines and screening protocols. Program availability will be based on operational resources and on a week by week basis. There will be signup sheets for each program posted in each building.  LTC have been able to provide one to two small groups Monday to Friday, one to one visits as well as continuing to provide regular weekly facetime and skype connections.

As mentioned in the last email, if and when visitation for essential reasons are approved, recreation will continue to receive your requests to book facetime and skype connections.  To inquire please contact recreation at:
