The time between now and January 8th, which includes many significant holidays, will be different this year in long-term care, as in the community at large. COVID-19 precautions will remain in place.
Everything should be done to maximize designated social visitors and essential visitors as safely as possible. Our Medical Health Officer has confirmed that essential and social visits can proceed. Sites are encouraged to reach out to families about visiting over the holidays.
The Order from the Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, as it stands today is for only those living in a household to gather. Hence, we cannot provide direction to families other than reminding them of this Order. If families take a loved one home for the holidays, regardless of the length of the visit, the resident will have to isolate for 14 days upon return.
While the usual large gatherings and social events are not possible in LTC, the homes are encouraged to decorate and create, where possible, activities in small groups to mark the Holiday Season.
We understand how very difficult this holiday season will be for everyone. Our hope is that we all find joy in the small things and in the true nature of the season, whatever you celebrate
