Stanford Seniors Village Community Update January 21st, 2020

To Our Extended Family,

There continues to be no signs or symptoms of COVID-19 in any of our residents/tenants or staff here at Stanford Seniors Village, and for that we are very grateful. Should the status of our Community change in any respect, please know that we will immediately contact families.

Vaccines:

Island Health has started its COVID-19 vaccination program for priority populations. Staff at Stanford Seniors Village have received information about the vaccine and can now schedule their appointment to receive the vaccination. To date most of the staff have been vaccinated.

We are so happy to announce that our residents in Long Term Care and our tenants in Assisted Living received their COVID vaccination on Tuesday January 19th. The day went very well and the public health nurses did an amazing job. Once we receive more information regarding vaccines for our Independent tenants we will be sure to share that information with you.

Social Visits:

We would like to thank those of you who have had a chance to visit loved ones, for following our protocols to help maintain everyone’s safety. These protocols are set forth by the health authorities and we must adhere to them or visitations can be cancelled.

As a reminder:

To schedule a visit with your loved one in care, please contact the Reception desk at

250-951-0811 x 0 between 9:00am – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.

For Independent and Assisted Living residents, please contact Natalie at 250-951-0811 x 1101.

Social visits will be limited to a single designated visitor per resident, and must be booked in advance.

The visitation process, please note the key requirements:

If you have any questions or concerns about the visitation process please call Nina Romanow, Therapeutic Recreation Manager at 250-951-0811 x 1111, Jodi Campbell, Director of Care at 250-951-0811 x 1113 or Rachel Tranberg, Community Relations at 250-951-0811 x 1155.

Window Visits:

Window visits are continuing. For families that do not carry a mobile phone we can provide a portable phone for you. Anyone wishing to book a window visit with their loved one please contact the Reception desk between 9:00am – 4:30pm, Monday – Friday at 250-951-0811 x 0.

We continue to encourage family members and other loved ones to connect with residents via telephone, FACETIME or SKYPE. To inquire about facetime/skype or phone calls, please contact stanfordreception@retirementconcepts.com.

Recreation:

The recreation team are preparing activities to ensure residents can have fun, exercise and socialize with each other in our community. Arts and crafts, active games, brain games, table games and music programs are just some of the programs that we are enjoying. Please remind and motivate your loved ones to participate in these smaller group activities.

Mask use by tenants in common areas:

We have kindly asked our tenants living in Independent Living and Assited Living to wear a mask in areas of the community that are shared and where they are unable to maintain a 6 feet distance. If a tenant doesn’t have a mask they are able to pick up a mask daily at the sign out book on the 1st floor.

Dropping items off

All deliveries will be received at the front desk between 7:00am – 5:00pm. This includes groceries, medications, and gifts. All items will be sanitized and delivered directly to the resident’s suites.

We would ask that families please follow these guidelines to ensure your parent or loved one to get their deliveries in a timely manner:

  1. Please use plastic bags, no reusable bags.
  2. Make sure to label all bags with resident’s full name and room number.
  3. Try to limit drop offs to essential items. There are days when staff are overwhelmed trying to keep up.
  4. Please sanitize, if possible, the items before dropping off. We will re-sanitize as well to be safe.

Reminders for your loved one to Stay Safe

Again, the following four points are so critical to discuss with your loved ones. Please help us by reminding each resident daily of the following four items:

  1. Practice social distancing (6 feet apart.)
  2. Perform proper Hand Hygiene (Wash hands frequently for 20 seconds with the alcohol-based sanitizer or soap and hot water) 20 second or greater is so important.
  3. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth.
  4. If exhibiting any symptoms (fever, cough and difficulty breathing). Please alert staff immediately.

A big thank you to everyone for working so hard to keep Stanford safe and healthy, as well as for the kindness, understanding and support that has been shown.

A little joke to help brighten the day!

What happens to a frog’s car when it breaks down?

It gets toad away!

Riddle of the Week!

What starts with E, ends with E and has only one letter in it?

An envelope!

With Love,

The Stanford Seniors Village Team
