Stanford Seniors Village Community Update February 18, 2020

To Our Extended Family,

There continues to be no signs or symptoms of COVID-19 in any of our residents/tenants or staff here at Stanford Seniors Village, and for that we are very grateful. Should the status of our Community change in any respect, please know that we will immediately contact families.

Vaccines:

Island Health has started its COVID-19 vaccination program for priority populations. Staff at Stanford Seniors Village have received information about the vaccine and can now schedule their appointment to receive the vaccination. To date most of the staff have been vaccinated.

We are so happy to announce that our residents in Long Term Care and our tenants in Assisted Living and Independent Living have received their 1st COVID vaccination. For new residents joining us who haven’t yet received the COVID vaccination, they will be scheduled to receive in our upcoming clinics.

Social Visits:

We would like to thank those of you who have had a chance to visit loved ones, for following our protocols to help maintain everyone’s safety. These protocols are set forth by the health authorities and we must adhere to them or visitations can be cancelled.

As a reminder:

To schedule a visit with your loved one in care, please contact the Reception desk at

250-951-0811 x 0 between 9:00am – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.

For Independent and Assisted Living residents, please contact Natalie at 250-951-0811 x 1101.

Social visits will be limited to a single designated visitor per resident, and must be booked in advance.

Window Visits:

Window visits are continuing.  For families that do not carry a mobile phone we can provide a portable phone for you. Anyone wishing to book a window visit with their loved one please contact the Reception desk between 9:00am – 4:30pm, Monday – Friday at 250-951-0811 x 0.

We continue to encourage family members and other loved ones to connect with residents via telephone, FACETIME or SKYPE. To inquire about facetime/skype or phone calls, please contact stanfordreception@retirementconcepts.com.

Recreation:

The recreation team are preparing activities to ensure residents can have fun, exercise and socialize with each other in our community. Arts and crafts, active games, brain games, table games and music programs are just some of the programs that we are enjoying. Please remind and motivate your loved ones to participate in these smaller group activities.

Mask use by tenants in common areas:

We have kindly asked our tenants living in Independent Living and Assited Living to wear a mask in areas of the community that are shared and where they are unable to maintain a 6 feet distance. If a tenant doesn’t have a mask they are able to pick up a mask daily at the sign out book on the 1st floor.

The Library Nook:

We are currently working on creating a lovely little reading nook on the second floor for our residents to enjoy. Thank you to everyone that has donated books for the library, it is really taking shape and our residents are really enjoying looking through the new books. If you have any books that you would like to donate, we are still looking for picture books and coffee table books. We are also going to be creating a music corner where we can play records and listen to the music. We have ordered the record player and it is on its way. If you have any records (vinyl) tucked away in the garage or attic that you don’t listen to anymore we would love to dust them off and add them to our collection. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you so much in advance.

Dropping items off

All deliveries will be received at the front desk between 7:00am – 5:00pm. This includes groceries, medications, and gifts. All items will be sanitized and delivered directly to the resident’s suites.

We would ask that families please follow these guidelines to ensure your parent or loved one to get their deliveries in a timely manner:

  1. Please use plastic bags, no reusable bags.
  2. Make sure to label all bags with resident’s full name and room number.
  3. Try to limit drop offs to essential items. There are days when staff are overwhelmed trying to keep up.
  4. Please sanitize, if possible, the items before dropping off. We will re-sanitize as well to be safe.

Reminders for your loved one to Stay Safe

Again, the following four points are so critical to discuss with your loved ones. Please help us by reminding each resident daily of the following four items:

  1. Practice social distancing (6 feet apart.)
  2. Perform proper Hand Hygiene (Wash hands frequently for 20 seconds with the alcohol-based sanitizer or soap and hot water) 20 second or greater is so important.
  3. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth.
  4. If exhibiting any symptoms (fever, cough and difficulty breathing). Please alert staff immediately.

Tax Receipts

Carmen our Finance Admin Coordinator is currently working on preparing all of our residents and tenants tax receipts for 2020. They will be in the mail by February 28th 2021.

A big thank you to everyone for working so hard to keep Stanford safe and healthy, as well as for the kindness, understanding and support that has been shown.

A little joke to help brighten the day!

What is black and white, black and white, black and white?

A penguin rolling down a hill!

With Love,

The Stanford Seniors Village Team
