Stanford Seniors Village Community Update December 17, 2020

To Our Extended Family,

There continues to be no signs or symptoms of COVID-19 in any of our residents/tenants or staff here at Stanford Seniors Village, and for that we are very grateful. Should the status of our Community change in any respect, please know that we will immediately contact families.

Christmas in the Village:

The Village is starting to look very Christmassy. We are so very grateful for our fantastic team who have been working hard to make our community as festive as we can. This week with a little help from Ballenas Secondary School and Springwood Elementary we have been able to decorate our outdoor Christmas tree. The Children had so much fun decorating and drinking hot chocolates we can’t thank them enough for helping us spread some holiday cheer. Our Residents and tenants were able to watch through the windows and enjoy seeing the Christmas tree take shape. If you have an ornament that you would like to place on the tree please do, just make sure that its secure we wouldn’t want to see your ornament blow away.

Annual Sock and Toque Drive:

For the month of December we will be collecting donations for our annual sock and toque drive. The donations we receive will be delivered to the Manna Homeless Society early in the New Year. The Manna Homeless Society supports individuals, couples and families suffering from poverty in the Oceanside area. The society was established in 2011 and operated entirely by volunteers. If you would like to donate new and unused socks and toques to our drive, you are welcome to drop off these items at the front entrance.

A big Thank you to our family and friends that have already donated, your donation is very much appreciated.

We would like to thank those of you who have had a chance to visit loved ones, for following our protocols to help maintain everyone’s safety. These protocols are set forth by the health authorities and we must adhere to them or visitations can be cancelled.

Recreation:

The recreation team are preparing activities to ensure residents can have fun, exercise and socialize with each other in our community. Arts and crafts, active games, brain games, table games and music programs are just some of the programs that we are enjoying. Please remind and motivate your loved ones to participate in these smaller group activities.

Mask use by tenants in common areas:

We have kindly asked our tenants living in Independent Living and Assited Living to wear a mask in areas of the community that are shared and where they are unable to maintain a 6 feet distance. If a tenant doesn’t have a mask they are able to pick up a mask daily at the sign out book on the 1st floor.

Dropping items off

All deliveries will be received at the front desk between 7:00am – 5:00pm. This includes groceries, medications, and gifts. All items will be sanitized and delivered directly to the resident’s suites.

We would ask that families please follow these guidelines to ensure your parent or loved one to get their deliveries in a timely manner:

  1. Please use plastic bags, no reusable bags.
  2. Make sure to label all bags with resident’s full name and room number.
  3. Try to limit drop offs to essential items. There are days when staff are overwhelmed trying to keep up.
  4. Please sanitize, if possible, the items before dropping off. We will re-sanitize as well to be safe.

Reminders for your loved one to Stay Safe

Again, the following four points are so critical to discuss with your loved ones. Please help us by reminding each resident daily of the following four items:

  1. Practice social distancing (6 feet apart.)
  2. Perform proper Hand Hygiene (Wash hands frequently for 20 seconds with the alcohol-based sanitizer or soap and hot water) 20 second or greater is so important.
  3. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth.
  4. If exhibiting any symptoms (fever, cough and difficulty breathing). Please alert staff immediately.

A big thank you to everyone for working so hard to keep Stanford safe and healthy, as well as for the kindness, understanding and support that has been shown.

A little joke to help brighten the day!

What is a Christmas tree’s favourite candy?

Orna-mints!

With Love,

The Stanford Seniors Village Team
