Good Afternoon,

Selkirk remains COVID-19 free!

Should the status of our community change in any respect, please know that we will immediately inform all resident’s and tenant’s families or primary contact.

Can you believe next week is December!? Our Recreation staff will begin decorating this weekend and I hope to have some new pictures next week of the festive displays. The unit’s Christmas parties will occur on Dec. 15. Wayne, Support Service Manager, and Brian, Recreation Manager, have come together to plan a wonderful canapés lunch with recreation fun and entertainment.

 Recreation

Selkirk is doing an intergeneration distance art project with the local Montessori school over the next few weeks. Our residents who participate will be given a subject to create an art piece, and the children will be given the same subject. It will be interesting to see how different generations interpret the subjects!

I love seeing the community give back and find new creative ways to reach out. We were contacted by a local teacher who is working on a project called Caring Cards Campaign and hopes to provide our site with handmade cards from the children she works with.  We all look forward to seeing their creations before they start their Winter Break.

Visitations

All social visitation goes through the Visitation Team. You can contact them at 250-940-1028 local 1125.

If you are needing to cancel or rebook your visit, please give us as much notice as possible so we can try to fit someone else in that spot. Please send an email to Selkirk-familyvisits@retirementconcepts.com or via phone at local 1125. If families have questions regarding the visitations please contact Brian DelRay at local 1102, either he or another Selkirk Covid Committee member will contact you.

The Recreation team are facilitating FaceTime and Skype to the best of their abilities, while also completing their other duties. Please note that these are the only two platforms we are able to use.  Please reach out to Brian DelRaye-Recreation manager and his team by e-mail at bdelraye@retirementconcepts.com or Selkirk-recreation@retirementconcepts.com, or call to set up a schedule (Brian- 250-940-1028 x1102; Rec Office- 250-940-1028 x1120).  They will be happy to confirm a date and time to connect you with your loved-one.

Reminders for your loved one to Stay Safe:

Again, the following four points are so critical to discuss with your loved ones. Please help us by reminding your loved one of the following:

  1. Practice social distancing (6 feet apart)
  2. Perform proper Hand Hygiene (Wash hands frequently for 20 seconds or greater with the alcohol-based sanitizer or soap and hot water). This is very important
  3. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
  4. If exhibiting any symptoms (fever, cough and difficulty breathing) please inform staff immediately.

Thank You

We would like to wish any of our American families a very happy Thanksgiving, and for everyone- thank you for all that you do, every day.
