Good Afternoon,

Selkirk Seniors Village is COVID-19 Free! Please know that should the status of our community change in any respect, we will immediately inform all resident’s and tenant’s families or primary contact.

The COVID-19 vaccination roll out is moving quickly across the province. One thing that Island Health has asked us to stress: These clinics are for residents and tenants only.  Staff and Essential visitors will continue to be contacted by Island Health for appointments at a clinic off-site.

Selkirk’s COVID-19 vaccination clinic will be held Saturday, January 23rd and Island Health will be on site to administer the vaccine.

If your family member/loved one living at Selkirk Seniors Village is not capable of consenting to a vaccine and you are their legally appointed Health Representative or temporary Substitute Decision Maker (SDM), you will be contacted by Selkirk to provide consent on their behalf (only for Long Term Care residents). Island Health has now informed us that Assisted Living tenants that were unable to give consent or requested their SDM give consent cannot have their consent signed off ahead of time by their SDM . The public health nurse will be provided with the Substitute Decision Maker’s phone number, so they can call and receive consent over the phone when needed.

More information about the vaccine is available at the BCCDC website

 Recreation and Support Services

Christmas and New Year’s is over and the Robbie Burns Day decorations are going up, and soon after Valentines. Our Recreation Team works hard to provide quality programs and meaningful interactions- we appreciate everything they do!

The new 2021 Winter menu is rolling out next week, we are keeping some favourites and introducing a few new items as well. Soup has always been something people have requested more of, and I am thrilled to report it is an almost daily occurrence on the 2021 Winter menu.

Visitations

All social visitation goes through the Visitation Team. You can contact them at 250-940-1028 local 1125.

If you are needing to cancel or rebook your visit, please give us as much notice as possible so we can try to fit someone else in that spot. Please send an email to Selkirk-familyvisits@retirementconcepts.com or via phone at local 1125. If families have questions regarding the visitations please contact Brian DelRay at local 1102, either he or another Selkirk Covid Committee member will contact you.

The Recreation team are facilitating FaceTime and Skype to the best of their abilities, while also completing their other duties. Please note that these are the only two platforms we are able to use.  Please reach out to Brian DelRaye-Recreation manager and his team by e-mail at bdelraye@retirementconcepts.com or Selkirk-recreation@retirementconcepts.com, or call to set up a schedule (Brian- 250-940-1028 x1102; Rec Office- 250-940-1028 x1120).  They will be happy to confirm a date and time to connect you with your loved-one.

Reminders for your loved one to Stay Safe:

Again, the following four points are so critical to discuss with your loved ones. Please help us by reminding your loved one of the following:

  1. Practice social distancing (6 feet apart)
  2. Perform proper Hand Hygiene (Wash hands frequently for 20 seconds or greater with the alcohol-based sanitizer or soap and hot water). This is very important
  3. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
  4. If exhibiting any symptoms (fever, cough and difficulty breathing) please inform staff immediately.

Thank You

It is close to a year now since Covid-19 came and turned everything upside down. Thank you for everyone’s cooperation, dedication, and resilience through this past crazy year.
