Good Afternoon,

Happy New Year to you and your whole family. Selkirk Seniors Village continues to be COVID-19 Free! Please know that should the status of our community change in any respect, we will immediately inform all resident’s and tenant’s families or primary contact.

As I am sure many of you are aware the Covid-19 vaccinations have started in the province. Please see a note from our General Manager below:

The COVID-19 vaccination roll out is moving quickly and many have appointments to receive their first dose. We expect that VIHA will be starting to provide vaccinations to residents of Long Term Care and Assisted Living in mid-January. This work is critically important and we are working hard with Island Health to prepare.  One thing that Island Health has asked us to stress: These clinics are for residents only.  Staff and Essential visitors will continue to be contacted by Island Health for appointments at a clinic off-site.

If your family member/loved one living at Selkirk Seniors Village is not capable of consenting to a vaccine and you are their legally appointed Health Representative or Temporary  Substitute Decision Maker, you will be contacted to provide consent on their behalf.

More information about the vaccine is available at the BCCDC website

 Community and Recreation

London Drugs donated so many gifts for our seniors for Christmas, ensuring no one went without a present this year.  Our recreation staff stepped up and took the time to lovingly sort through- a big thanks to them for all their dedicated hard work!

We are slowly taking down the Christmas decorations and pretty soon the Valentines decorations will be going up. Another thank you to everyone in our community that donated crafts, cards, and items to decorate.

Visitations

All social visitation goes through the Visitation Team. You can contact them at 250-940-1028 local 1125.

If you are needing to cancel or rebook your visit, please give us as much notice as possible so we can try to fit someone else in that spot. Please send an email to Selkirk-familyvisits@retirementconcepts.com or via phone at local 1125. If families have questions regarding the visitations please contact Brian DelRay at local 1102, either he or another Selkirk Covid Committee member will contact you.

The Recreation team are facilitating FaceTime and Skype to the best of their abilities, while also completing their other duties. Please note that these are the only two platforms we are able to use.  Please reach out to Brian DelRaye-Recreation manager and his team by e-mail at bdelraye@retirementconcepts.com or Selkirk-recreation@retirementconcepts.com, or call to set up a schedule (Brian- 250-940-1028 x1102; Rec Office- 250-940-1028 x1120).  They will be happy to confirm a date and time to connect you with your loved-one.

Reminders for your loved one to Stay Safe:

Again, the following four points are so critical to discuss with your loved ones. Please help us by reminding your loved one of the following:

  1. Practice social distancing (6 feet apart)
  2. Perform proper Hand Hygiene (Wash hands frequently for 20 seconds or greater with the alcohol-based sanitizer or soap and hot water). This is very important
  3. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
  4. If exhibiting any symptoms (fever, cough and difficulty breathing) please inform staff immediately.

Thank You

Hopefully 2021 will see the world start to be able to come together again. Thank you for all your patience, and being diligent with keeping yourself and those around you safe.
