Recreation:

February is Therapeutic Recreation Month! This month we recognize the importance and diversity of TR and will be celebrating the amazing team we have here at RHSV. Therapeutic Recreation (often referred to as TR or Rec Therapy) is a profession, which recognizes leisure, recreation and play as integral components of quality of life.

Rec Therapy may sound like all fun and games – and it is fun! – but there’s a lot more to it. TR is directed toward improving basic functioning, education and opportunities for leisure. Trained TR Practitioners set goals and develop care plans which focus on the physical, social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual strengths and needs of our residents and engage them in fun and meaningful ways. These processes support the individual to maximize their independence and have the most quality of life.

This year, we decided to have a fun theme each day throughout February. Residents can look forward to Crazy Socks Day, Tall or Small day and Tacky Tourist Day, just to name a few!

We will continue to offer scheduled video calls for those families who live out of town or are unable to come in for any reason. Please connect with Jaylene Smillie in our recreation department by emailing jsmillie@retirementconcepts.com or by calling 778-545-5000 ext. 1007
