Hello Families and Friends!

Spring has arrived! It is evident in the weather and in the way the flowers bloom. I hope that it can symbolize new hope for us. Like the flowers, our efforts are slowly blossoming. As of May 14, 2020 the COVID-19 Update in BC is as follows:

Total COVID-19 cases2,392
Total recovered1,885
Total deaths135
Current hospitalized patients58
Total number of patients in ICU/HAU12

Peace Portal Seniors Village continues to abide by the protocols and precautionary measures as instructed by our Provincial Health Officer, and we remain free of COVID-19. As we move forward with the gradual opening of our Beautiful British Columbia and lifting some restrictions, we implore you to continue to take precautions and stay close to home. Let us explore our own gardens. Take this time and opportunity to plant your own vegetables and fruits. At the end of the day, we reap what we sow. I know most of you have questions when will Peace Portal Seniors Village allow visitors in or at least 2 meters away out in the open with your loved ones? Please bear with us some more time, as the saying goes “proceed when clear, if in doubt check the manual”!  We have come this far but not out of the woods yet. We are still in full enforcement of Infection Prevention and Control. Adhering to the protocols: wearing PPE, screening all staff before start of shift, screening all residents every shift, isolating sick residents, continue on lock down, essential visits only to dying loved ones, single site staffing, restricting staff to come to work with mildest symptoms and advise to stay home to isolate for 10 days etc.  Once we get a “go signal to lift some of the restrictions, we will be more than happy to inform you all immediately. From all of us at Peace Portal, thank you so much for your understanding and cooperation. As B.C.’s top doctor, Dr. Bonnie Henry, says, “Be kind. Be calm. Stay safe.” We will get out of this predicament together.

Sincerely and sending you my best regards,

Jessica Obra, RN
