Dear Friends and Family of Peace Portal Seniors Village Residents;

We are happy to inform you that we have no additional Covid-19 cases to report.

There are currently 8 positive cases in our Peace Portal Seniors Village resident population.

Of the two staff members that tested positive, both continue to be asymptomatic. One is still in isolation at home, the other has been given the all clear.

All staff have been swabbed and of the 16 results that have come in so far, all are negative.

Residents are in the process of being re-swabbed this weekend.

We will continue to update everyone as the remaining swab results come in.

We all look forward to the Special Dinner being prepared on Monday October 12 to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Until further notice, our dining room remains closed and all family visitations are cancelled, including window visits.  As well, all group activities are paused.

Flu vaccinations are on hold until we are out of COVID outbreak.

Mail in ballots will be arranged for any residents wishing to participate in the upcoming election.

All residents of our Peace Portal Seniors Village Community have been placed in isolation in their respective rooms where they receive meals by tray service, and are monitored closely.  On Monday, October 12, they will all receive a Special Thanksgiving Dinner.

We have grouped our Staff into cohorts who are designated to a specific floor or area.  They do not work beyond this area, and this reduces the opportunity for spread of Covid-19.

We have moved our Covid-19 positive residents to one wing of the Building, separated from the rest of the wing by a plastic shield, and there are dedicated caregivers for these Covid-19 positive residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, who do not work with other Covid-19 negative residents.

We educate each shift of our staff on hand hygiene and safety protocols, including those related to personal protective gear – putting it on, taking it off and performing job functions while wearing it.

Caring for our Peace Portal Seniors Village Community is our top priority, and our team is dedicated to ensuring consistent, loving and supportive care at all times.

At present, we are continuing to work with Fraser Heath Authority and follow their guidance and direction.  We communicate with them at least once each day.

We have started a photo-wall and it is full of photographs of friends, family and staff displaying both thumbs up!  Please feel free to email us a photo where those photographed have both thumbs up.  This wall of photos continues to grow, and the smiling faces brighten everyone’s day!

Communication

As is our protocol, in the event of any positive Covid-19 test result for a staff member or a resident, we will provide all the families of residents with a daily email update.  We have also phoned the families of residents.  Should the condition of any specific resident change, their family will be notified immediately.

To inquire about facetime/skype or phone calls, please contact: Sandra Kaethlerskaethler@retirementconcepts.com.  At this time, Face Time or virtual visits are not available for positive residents due to protocols that must be followed by Fraser Health.

Protocols

BC’s Medical Health Officer has been notified, and the Peace Portal Seniors Village is following protocols established by Fraser Health Authority, the Office of the Provincial Health Officer and the BC Center for Disease Control.

We will continue to act upon the latest advice of BC’s Health Ministry and will adapt our operations as necessary and recommended.

The Outbreak Period is being re-evaluated on a daily basis pending additional test results, and as we continue to take active measures against the spread.  We will advise families of a definitive Outbreak conclusion date once Fraser Health Authority informs us of it.

Deliveries

All deliveries will be received at the lobby entrance vestibule.  This includes medication deliveries from pharmacies, as well as gifts and mail.  All items will be sanitized and delivered directly to resident suites.

Dropping items off

We would ask that families please follow these guidelines to ensure your loved ones will receive their deliveries in a timely manner:

  1. Please use plastic bags not reusable bags;

  1.          Please label all bags with the resident’s name and suite number;
  2. Try to limit drop offs to essential items; and

  1. If possible, please sanitize the items before dropping off.  We will re-sanitize as well to be safe.

Acknowledgements

We wish to thank families and loved ones in advance for their patience and cooperation.

Please join us in extending our sincere appreciation to the Peace Portal Seniors Village staff, who are dedicated to keeping your loved ones safe and in good spirits.
