Hi Everyone:

We hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy!

Peace Portal Seniors Village has exciting news and announcements for you for this month.

In spite of the fact that no residents are presenting COVID-19 signs or symptoms, we remain on lockdown at Peace Portal Seniors Village out of an abundance of caution. We know that continues to be an anxious period for residents, families and loved-ones – but we ask that everyone be respectful of this measure, for resident and staff safety.

During this time we are continuing window visits with residents and families as well as following the single visitor policy through the BC Ministry of Health. This means that each resident can designate a specific person to have in person visits with while being physically distant and wearing a mask.

Should the status of the facility change in any respect, please know that we will immediately contact families.

You can book a family visit by calling the residence during regular business hours and asking to speak with Sandy, our Recreation Manager. She would be happy to go through our visitation protocols and book a time for you to visit your loved one.

Please note that visitation protocols are in alignment with the provincial guidelines for the safety of our residents, team members, and yourselves.

New General Manager

Peace Portal Seniors Village is pleased to announce the appointment of our new General Manager, Sanaah Dodhia. Sanaah comes to us from years of experience in Senior Living with companies such as Tapestry Senior Living and Amica Senior Lifestyles. She has a background in Kinesiology but has been working senior living operations for the last 7 years. She values leadership and commitment to serve with excellence. She looks forward to settling into her role quickly and catering to the team, families, and residents.

Retirement Concepts wants to extend their heartiest gratitude to Jessica Obra for filling in as interim General Manager. Jessica has decided to take some time and return to her true passion of caring for residents as a Nurse with Peace Portal Seniors Village. We are currently recruiting for a new Director of Care to fill her big shoes. Updates will be coming out on this shortly.

Protocols

We are following the direction of our public health officials to the letter, and have full infection prevention and control precautions in place. Staff continue to monitor residents closely and are ensuring the following protocols are being adhered to:

Recreation Program

The Recreation staff are conducting small group (5 to 6 people) activities while using physical distancing practices. The Recreation staff are also going room-to-room each day to check on each resident and to drop off activities to keep resident minds sharp. Again, please remind and motivate your loved ones to participate in these different activities. To the extent staff are able to facilitate Facetime and Skype for residents they are doing so, amidst their other duties. Please reach out to (Recreation manager/team) by e-mail at or call her at to set up a schedule. She will be happy to confirm a date and time to connect you with your loved-one.

Dining Room

Our dining room has resumed services with increased sanitation and distancing precautions. We are currently using multiple areas of the building to seat residents to ensure physical distancing measures. However, we are looking to continue providing a great culinary experience and improve our service standards on a regular basis.

Reminders for your loved one to Stay Safe:

Again, the following four points are so critical to discuss with your loved ones, friends, and co-workers. Please help reduce our public cases by:

  1. Practice physical distancing (6 feet apart)
  2. Perform proper Hand Hygiene (Wash hands frequently for 20 seconds with the alcohol-based sanitizer or soap and hot water) 20 second or greater is so important.
  3. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
  4. If exhibiting any symptoms (fever, cough and difficulty breathing) please alert staff immediately.

Our residents rely on the public’s support and safety to ensure that they can continue receiving the best quality of life possible.
