Dear residents, family members and friends,

We have had a practicum student that was working on the Residential Care floor, test positive for COVID-19. The last date the student worked was January 8th.  Because of this, Public Health has declared our Residential Care 3rd Floor in outbreak.

As we have been communicating these last few days, we are currently in enhanced monitoring due to the staff member that tested positive on December 8th.  If 2 or more people in a building/area test positive for COVID-19, Public Health will declare that area in outbreak.  Because of this Public Health has declared an outbreak on our 3rd floor only in Residential Care.  This does not affect our 1st & 2nd floors in Residential Care, or our Independent Living/Assisted Living (all floors).

To our knowledge the two staff members that tested positive were not in contact with each other and therefore we believe these incidents are not related.  However, we must follow the process and protocols set forth by Public Health.  At this time they have requested we swab additional staff members.  This is being done as we speak and we will communicate to everyone once we receive the results.  Enhanced cohorting measures have been put into place for staff members of our Residential Care 3rd floor and we are continuing increased health checks and monitoring of all residents.

No residents have any COVID-19 symptoms at time.

Visits

All essential and social visits are cancelled, and all group activities are on hold until we receive the most recent swab results.  We will revise our programming as appropriate to try to ensure our residents have some social stimulation through this period while we await further direction.

To inquire about facetime/skype or phone calls, please contact Kim Knudsen, Manager of Recreation & Volunteer Services at kknudsen@retirementconcepts.com or call 604-476-4320.

Outside Visits

We request and strongly encourage all of our Independent and Assisted Living residents to remain on site at this time.  Medically necessary appointments can be made, however it is imperative that you inform the medical office you are attending that you are coming from an Outbreak Community.

Communication

We will continue to provide families with a daily email update over the coming days.  Should the condition of any resident change, their family will be notified immediately.

Meal Services

The dining room in Residential Care 3rd floor is closed until further notice.

The dining rooms in our Independent Living/Assisted Living, as well as Residential Care 1st & 2nd floors are currently open.

Deliveries

All deliveries will be received at the front desk.  This includes groceries, medications and gifts. All items will be sanitized and delivered directly to the resident’s suites.

When dropping items off:  We ask families to please follow the guidelines below in order to ensure that your loved one gets their deliveries in a timely manner:

  1. Please use plastic bags, no reusable bags
  2. Make sure to label all bags with the resident’s name and room number

We thank you for your patience with our team through these busy next few days.

If you have any urgent questions or concerns please contact Bianca, our General Manager at 604.760.2209.  We ask that you please refrain from calling the Nursing Stations at this time so we can allow our Nursing Team to focus on the care of our residents.

As always, the care and safety of residents is our number one priority and we will continue to do everything in our control to keep them safe, healthy and happy!

Sincerely,

The Maple Ridge Seniors Village (MRSV) Leadership Team and Staff
