Hello Family and Friends,

We hope you are all staying safe and healthy during these times.

We are communicating with you today to ensure we are transparent and keep all of our family members and friends aware of anything that arises at Maple Ridge Seniors Village.

We have had an exposure to COVID-19 in our Independent Living/Assisted Living Building.

A Fraser Health Home Support colleague, who comes to Maple Ridge Seniors Village to help some of our residents with personal care, has tested positive for COVID-19.  This Fraser Health colleague was last here on December 6th and tested positive today.  It has been 4 days since this colleague was last on site and we are very optimistic with this news.

However, out of abundance of caution we are requiring any residents who received care from this Fraser Health colleague, and have potentially been exposed to COVID-19, to isolate in their suite.  These residents were swabbed today and we will notify everyone once we receive the results.

Again, out of extreme caution, we are also asking any other residents who have had direct contact with an exposed resident to also isolate in their suite.

No residents or staff members have any COVID-19 symptoms at this time.

All essential and social visits are on hold until we know more.  Window visits for our Residential Care residents can continue at this time.

Independent Living & Assisted Living

We request and strongly encourage all residents in our Independent Living & Assisted Living building to remain in their suite as much as possible.

We are providing medical-grade masks to all residents and are asking them to wear them at all times when they are out of their suite, unless they are eating.

Meal Services:  The Dining Room remains open at this time.  Our Dining Room has been re-designed to meet all Public Health guidelines allowing for 6 feet between all residents that are not considered a couple.

Residential Care

Residents in our Residential Care have not been affected at this time and we continue to operate as normal.  All dining rooms remain open.

We have informed anyone in our Independent Living & Assisted Living who has a spouse in Residential Care that they cannot go over and visit their spouse at this time.

Staff Cohorting

Out of caution we have begun cohorting all staff.  Any colleagues who work in our Independent Living & Assisted Living building will not enter our Residential Care areas.

Pets

If your loved one has a pet in their suite, please be aware that in the event of an outbreak in our community, the pet must be moved out of the suite temporarily.  Please be prepared to come pick up the pet right away.

Deliveries

Deliveries can still be accepted at the Screener desk.  This includes groceries, medications and gifts. All items will be sanitized and delivered directly to the resident’s suites.

When dropping items off:  We ask families to please follow the guidelines below in order to ensure that your loved one gets their deliveries in a timely manner:

  1. Please use plastic bags, no reusable bags
  2. Make sure to label all bags with the resident’s name and room number

Communication

A letter has been placed outside the door of all Independent Living & Assisted Living Residents informing them of the current situation.

We will continue to communicate to all residents, staff, family members and friends, as soon as we have further information.

We understand many of you might be nervous or alarmed by this communication.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact a member of our Leadership Team.  Or you may call Lindsay, Community Relations Manager, directly at 604-764-8877.  Please refrain from calling our Nursing Team as their priority is caring for our residents.

We wish to thank staff, residents and families for their cooperation and understanding as we move through this period.

Please know that the care and safety of residents is our number one priority, and that we treat this situation very seriously.

Sincerely,

The Maple Ridge Seniors Village Leadership Team and Staff
