Update from Summerland Seniors Village for Friday, May 8, 2020

Good day to you all,

Mother’s day is fast approaching and we have a few things planned for all the ladies here at SSV. We will be providing a lovely brunch with pancakes, sausages, scrambled eggs and strawberry shortcake. All the ladies will be given a flower to let them know that we are all thinking of them on Mother’s day. A Mother’s day card will be handed out to all our lovely ladies here at SSV who certainly deserve the recognition.

The long-term care residents have had sing-alongs on the units and they certainly enjoy this activity.  They have also had some bingo and crafts that they thoroughly enjoy. The Face time and door visits continue to be something they really look forward to. I had to giggle at some of the jokes they were sharing with one another up on the units yesterday. They certainly make me and our team here smile.

We have finished moving the residents today that were set to move. They are settling into their units nicely. Some of the ladies that hadn’t seen each other in quite a while and were very happy to see each other again. It was very lovely to see. Maintenance will be working diligently over the next few days to ensure that they have moved all the furniture they can and rehang pictures etc.  It was a group effort, and once again this team rose to the occasion and got the job done.  Thank you to the team here that have worked so hard over these many weeks.

The AL side are anticipating the Bingo and Happy Hours that we are rolling out.  Rather than have the Bingo in the hallway, we will be offering Bingo inside the Community in small groups of 5 or less.  The recreation team has already been hard at work developing a schedule that will accommodate these activities and our Recreation team are a hard working committed bunch.

We are asking families and friends once again to please not come on the grounds. The Medical health officer has not lifted visitors on site. We are facilitating recreation door visits only at this time.  I reached out for confirmation today that this has not been lifted, and it has not. Again, we have many people coming on the site, in the parking lots and around the windows. We are asking people to please adhere to what we have asked until we have been given the official green light to permit small groups of visitors outside. This group of folks are particularly vulnerable to this virus, and we are working diligently to ensure this site remains COVID free. I am also being told that some people are waiting until the office staff are gone during the day and simply pulling into the driveway to visit after hours. Again folks, we really need you to adhere to our requests please. While you may think it is safe, there are still cases being confirmed in the Province. We ask that you please be considerate of the direction we have given and adhere to our requests to stay off of the property until we have received direction from the MHO.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding during this difficult time.  I would like to extend a very Happy Mother’s day to you all and hope that you are all safe and well.
