Hello Everyone,

We continue to appreciate all that you and your loved ones are doing to heed the precautions put in place to alleviate the risk of exposure to COVID-19.

I am relieved to tell you that there are no cases of reported outbreak nor signs nor symptoms of COVID-19 in any of our residents or staff here at Summerland Seniors’ Village.

As the Province begins the transition that will see some of the rules relaxed, a gentle reminder that we continue to follow the direction of our provincial Health Officer, Bonnie Henry, and our no visitor policy remains in place. We understand your eagerness to come and visit your loved ones but at this time our no visitor policy remains the same.

We continue to follow the direction of our public health officials to the letter and have full infection prevention and control precautions in place. Staff continue to monitor residents closely and are ensuring the following protocols are being adhered to

Communication

Due to social distancing orders we are encouraging family members and loved ones to connect with your family member via telephone call, facetime or Recreation door visits.

Recreation

The recreation staff are conducting 1:1 visits and activities wherever possible and within their abilities due to limited staffing in this department. This could involve reading, discussing news, trivia, puzzles, tea/coffee small group 1-1, crafts, card games etc. We are still doing hallway happy hours, some bingo, and the gardening is opening up in very small groups for AL residents.

We are excited to announce the slow return of small group recreation activities such as bingo, current events, social topic discussion etc. These are in groups of 5 or less and are conducted with social distancing in mind. We are happy to be able to gather again, but there are some very stringent parameters that must be in place to ensure each tenant and staff member is safe.

Meals

We are working on a plan to open the Assisted Living Dining Room when we have a plan that includes social distancing and how this will look moving forward. We are placing floor markers and arranging staffing to ensure that when we do, we will be able to keep everyone at a safe social distance.

In the meantime, the dining room is closed, and tray service is being delivered to each suite.

General store

The general store remains open, however; we are not permitting more than one person in the store at a time. The store remains well stocked and available for some treats and little necessities.

Deliveries

We remain asking that any deliveries come through the front door for sanitization. This is for both AL and LTC. For LTC, we are asking that only small items in single wrapping and single serving sizes are brought to LTC that may also be sanitized by wiping down.

A big thank you to everyone for working so hard to keep Summerland safe and healthy, as well as for the kindness, understanding and support you share.

Stay Safe everyone,

Sincerely,

Christy Baker

General Manager
