Good afternoon Friends and Families,

As everyone should now be aware, we were notified late Thursday evening that a staff member tested positive for COVID-19. The staff member last worked on November 24, 2020, and was asymptomatic at that time. The employee was wearing PPE at all times while working with the residents.

Public Health was notified immediately on Thursday evening and we have spoken with them as well as the Medical Health Officer. While they have deemed us low risk and are not placing us on outbreak, they will be monitoring our site for a 14 day period from the last exposure to help ensure everyone’s continued safety. For now, Public Health has advised us to isolate all residents to their suite.

On Thursday, we performed a contact mapping exercise and identified 20 residents that the positive team member was in contact with while on shift on November 24th, 2020. All 20 residents were immediately placed on droplet precautions and they were all swabbed Friday. The families of these 20 residents received a call Friday informing them of their loved ones status.

Results have come back for all residents and 10 staff members and they are all negative thus far. Communication will go out to these families when results are available. We are still pending results for some staff. At this time there are no residents that are experiencing any symptoms related to COVID-19 and twice a day monitoring has shown no elevated temperatures.

Starting Friday lunchtime, we had implemented room service for residents for meals. Both lunch and dinner are being served to residents in their rooms until further notice. We understand that the first day of switching to this process was challenging for some residents and we are working to refine the process. We are acting promptly as a preventive measure, and the Medical Health Officer and Public Health have both been thoroughly impressed with our quick response and active measures taken.

No other staff or any residents have presented with any COVID-19 signs or symptoms at this time.

We will continue to communicate with you as we learn more about this situation.

Unfortunately, we must cancel all family visitations, and pause any recreation or social activities. Unless essential, we ask all residents to cancel any outside appointments.

We will continue with daily updates to families with residents receiving a memo whenever new information is to be shared. If you would like any additional information on your family member or loved one, please contact Sanaah Dodhia at sdodhia@retirementconcepts.com or at (604) 539-3301.

Thank you very much,
Sanaah Dodhia
