Hello Everyone:

We continue to appreciate all that you and your loved ones are doing to heed the precautions put in place to alleviate risk of exposure to Covid-19.

We are happy to again report NO RESIDENTS or staff are presenting COVID-19 signs or symptoms at Kamloops Seniors Village.

As the Province begins the transition that will see some of the rules relaxed, a gentle reminder that we continue to follow the direction of our provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, and our NO VISITOR policy remains in place. We understand your eagerness to come and visit your loved ones but at this time our No Visitor policy remains the same.

Window Visits are continuing with the following guidelines:

  1. Plan to keep visits under 5 minutes with a limit of 2 people from the same household at a time. We still ask no children.
  2. Please be respectful of other visiting family members and ensure you are keeping appropriate social distance
  3. No open windows, please use telephones
  4. Please be aware of off limit areas that are used by our tenants, such as the back patio
  5. For all residents in Complex Care, window visits can still be safely scheduled and supported through the care staff.

Assisted Living/Independent Living

The beautiful May weather is so welcomed by everyone and we are encouraging tenants to go outside either on the patio practising social distancing, or to plan a walk around the building and take in the exquisite view.

Recreation Program

On Residential Care, the recreation staff are continuing one on one visits throughout the day and encouraging physical distancing practices.  We are also providing scheduled Skype visits for residents. Please reach out to Erica Buckingham, Recreation Manager by e-mail at ebuckingham@retirementconcepts.com  or call 250.571.2958 to set up a time to Skype. We will be happy to confirm a date and time to connect you with your loved-one.

The Assisted/Independent Living tenants are happy to have small group recreation programs reinstated with a maximum of five tenants per group. Tenants will be required to sign up for programs in advance, be pre-screened prior to entry, and be required to adhere to stringent parameters to ensure safety for everyone.

Dining Room

Lunch and dinner for both Independent Living and Assisted Living residents will continue to be served directly to the suites by Food Services staff. We will be working on a plan to open the Assisted Living Dining Room which will include arranging staff and physical distancing to be able to keep everyone at a safe social distance however, in the meantime the Dining Room remains closed.

Deliveries and Drop-offs:

All deliveries will continue to be received at the front desk and can now include perishable items, groceries, non-perishables, gifts. All items will be sanitized, bagged and we will call the tenants to come and pick up their items right away.

Our General Store remains open and well stocked with items to meet the needs of our residents.

Reminders for your loved one to Stay Safe:

Again, the following four points are so critical to continue to discuss with your loved ones. Please help us by reminding each resident daily of the following four items:

  1. Practice social/physical distancing (6 feet apart)
  2. Perform proper Hand Hygiene (Wash hands frequently for 20 seconds with the alcohol-based sanitizer or soap and hot water) 20 seconds or greater is so important.
  3. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
  4. If exhibiting any symptoms (fever, cough and difficulty breathing) please alert staff immediately.

The staff and leadership team are continuing to plan creative ways to bring joy and smiles to the face of residents by providing special delivery items, and always take the time to chat with those who are just needing a little visit.

The approaching Fire Season has necessitated the planning and preparation of a Code Green Evacuation Plan for the Village.  This year it will be a virtual plan and will be executed on Wednesday, May 27, 2020.  More information and details will be shared prior to the exercise.

We want to thank everyone for their cooperation and patience during these ever-changing circumstances.
