Kamloops Seniors Village – 2nd Floor Complex Care Exposure Event – December 30, 2021

Today, Interior Health determined that an exposure event is now in place at Kamloops Seniors Village – restricted to the 2nd Floor Long Term/Complex Care neighbourhoods only, (2A ,2B,2C Neighbourhoods [New Names: Aspen, Birch & Cedar Groves] ), due to an asymptomatic staff member testing positive to COVID-19 traced from a Kamloops community/family exposure. This staff member was last onsite while infectious on December 26, 2021. Zero (0) residents are symptomatic.

We are working closely with the Interior Health Authority (IHA) and Public Health. Exposure events last 10 days from the last positive COVID-19 case, with 4 days of follow ups from IHA.

We recognize this news will create concern and anxiety for residents, family members and other loved ones. Please know that the care and safety of residents is our number one priority and we are treating the situation very seriously.

Communication

As a result of this one COVID-19 case, we will be providing families with email updates 3x per week, unless the situation changes. Due to the holiday weekend, our next updates will be tomorrow, December 31, 2021 and then on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. Should the condition of any resident change, their family will be personally notified immediately.

Protocols

BC’s Medical Health Officer has been notified, and Kamloops Seniors Village is following our existing protocols established by Interior Health, the Office of the Provincial Health Officer and the BC Center for Disease Control.

At present, all the following existing actions to mitigate contagion and infection control are in place:

We will continue to act upon the latest advice of BC’s Health Ministry and will adapt our operations as necessary and recommended.

Rapid COVID-19 Testing

As previously communicated, provincial order was also released that will require all visitors (ages 12 years and up) get a rapid COVID-19 tests upon entry into all seniors care communities.  The order will be tentatively implemented by January 7, 2022 (pending supply deliveries).

VISITATION REMINDERS

We continue to work within the parameters set out by Retirement Concepts in addition to those laid out by the Health Authority to ensure that we are putting forward every effort to keep all those who work and live within our home safe.

Some of the things you can expect to see to help keep us all safe are rapid testing of all staff on a regular basis as well as the following:

Visitor Mask & Eye Protection Mandate

Effective Immediately, per Interior Health, all visitors (ages 5 years and up) are now required to keep their mask on at ALL times while in the building, including while in their family member’s/friend’s private room, until further notice.

Eye Wear protective equipment parameters, will also be implemented for Long Term/Complex Care visitors only, we are just waiting for further details on these logistics.

 Children Visitors

With children ages 5 and up now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine, and with community outbreaks in daycares and schools, the Provincial Health Officer has implemented some changes to the mask mandate for children until they are fully vaccinated in order to keep our community safe. It will be similar to the provision with the adult vaccine out.

 Acknowledgements

We wish to thank families and loved ones in advance for their patience and cooperation as we manage through this event.  We also ask that all friends and family do their part to stay safe with the increase number of COVID-19 cases in our province. We will continue to keep you updated as new information is available.

Sincerely,

The KSV Team
