Please join in and support your Family Council Our Family Council is a supportive and dedicated form for families and friends of residents in long-term care. We bring together families and facility staff to exchange timely and valuable information pertaining to the well-being of our loved ones. We also provide support, education and a venue for discussing collective concerns.

Our Family Council which normally meets monthly is assisted by Advocates for Care Reform (ACR). This provincial organization helps establish and support all Family Councils within British Columbia and is dedicated to improving the quality of care and the quality of life for all residents living in long-term care. As President of BHV Family Council I invite you to email me with any questions, concerns and/ or positive feedback you may have. Your concerns will remain confidential unless otherwise advised.

UPDATE on how visit scheduling will be handled from now on.

All requests for a visit between visitors and residents will be booked by the HCSW (Health Care Support Worker) team. Visitors will contact the HCSW team either by phone or email, and will need to provide two choices of days for visiting times in the event that one day becomes unsuitable for either parties. Voicemails and emails will be responded to within 24 hours.

As things will look a bit different, here is a summary of what to expect when you visit:

• There will be designated parking: ambulance parking is in front
• Please arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment
• Come down to rec/kitchen stairs, and be screened before you enter
• Visits will be in the recreation area. Outdoor patio visits are encouraged. There is an indoor space if required.
• Sanitize hands and wear a surgical grade masks. Required personal protective equipment will be provided by BHV.
• Visits will be approx. 40 minutes in duration.

In order to maximize our time so all families can benefit from booking a visit quickly:

• Virtual visits will still be offered. However, we are sure they will decrease.
• In person visits will take the place of fence visits.
• We have a 48-hour cancellation policy, and can easily reschedule you.
