Hello from Kamloops Seniors Village! It’s so nice to continue to see more visitors back in the home! We just wanted to remind families of the visitation parameters, visitor rapid testing protocols and reminders for during your visit! We thank you for patience as we have rolled out the new parameters!

Please read the entire communication so you are familiar with the current medical health orders and please share with your families!

Based on Dr. Bonnie Henry’s press conference today, February 15, 2022, there were no changes announced for care settings. Therefore, we expect the current visitation parameters to be in place at minimum through the next review dates of March 15 & April 12. Maybe the Easter Bunny or St. Patrick will bring us good luck for lifting restrictions? J

We are happy to report that our entertainment events can safely resume again. For Valentine’s Day, tenants and residents enjoyed a trip to a Paris with beautiful music by Linda Fenrich, set in our cozy “Parisian Bistro”. The Eiffel Tower even made an appearance in our tall Assisted Living Dining Room window. Pub nights also resume this week, and Blazer game & Fiddler outings are planned for March!

VISITATION INFORMATION

Single designated visitors & essential visitors are currently welcomed at Kamloops Seniors Village. Social visitation is still on hold until further notice.

The current visitation parameters only limit who enters the building, however tenants and Complex Care residents are permitted to be picked up and taken out of the building for outings.

As per Interior Health, Single Designated Visitors need to be documented in the resident’s record or care plan & one alternate visitor can also be identified if only the original designated visitor moves or becomes ill and unable to visit.

• If you haven’t done so already, please provide us an updated 2022 Designated Visitor to have on file; we request that families communicate with each other and make necessary visitor changes through our Payroll Coordinator Carollyn Anderson canderson@retirementconcepts.com; as no one else will be permitted.
  • Please email with the resident/tenant’s name, room number, and the visitor’s name and phone number
• Designated visitors will need to come during non-meal times since visits must be held in the resident/tenant’s private room and not in common areas, & during off peak times for our screeners to be able to safely support the new capacity for rapid testing and to prevent conflicts with our staff shift changes.
  • Visitors will be permitted between 8:30am-9pm excluding the following times:
    • 11:45am – 12:45pm (lunch)
    • 2:45pm-3:15pm (shift change)
    • 4:45pm-5:45pm (dinner)

Essential visits include, but are not limited to:

• Visits for compassionate care, including critical illness, palliative care, hospice care, end of life, and medical assistance in dying
• Visits paramount to the patient/client’s physical care and mental well-being, including as follows:
  • Assistance with feeding, mobility, personal care or communication;
  • Assistance by designated representatives for persons with disabilities;
  • Visits for supported decision making;
  • Existing registered volunteers providing the services described above;
  • Visits required to move belonging in/out of a resident’s room;
  • Police, correctional officers and peace officers accompanying a patient/client for security reasons.

VISITOR SCREENING

Every visitor 12 years and older entering Kamloops Seniors Village will have a rapid test conducted per recent mandates by the Provincial Health Officer:

• Essential and Single Designated visitors will continue to be screened and provide proof of vaccination
• Medical Grade masks will continue to be handed out if needed
• We have set up an area in the main lobby for testing
• Visitors MUST wait the 15 minutes until results are ready prior to going to your family member’s suite; therefore, please come at minimum 20 minutes early to be screened, tested, and wait for your results
• Long Term Care visitors will be provided Eye Protection by the screeners
• Please be patient if there is a line up as some visitors may need to wait outside if our lobby is at capacity

VISITOR REMINDERS

 As directed by Interior Health, all visitors (ages 5 years and up) are now required to keep their mask on at ALL times while in the building, including while in their family member’s/friend’s private room, until further notice.

A reminder that guests are not permitted to consume food or drink while in the home since their masks must be kept on at all times, therefore please do not bring in any items for yourself, only for the resident/tenant.

KAMLOOPS SENIORS VILLAGE 2021 TAX RECEIPTS

 It’s Tax Time! All Independent & Assisted Living Tenants, and Complex Care residents who resided in Kamloops Seniors Village for a portion of 2021 will be receiving a tax receipt from us for medical care costs. They will be mailed to the Power of Attorney or contact on file on or after February 28, 2022. Please consult with your accountant or tax advisor on how to input the information on your taxes. We’ve attached a resource sheet for more information.  Please contact our Finance Coordinator, Kristine O’Connor at koconnor@retirementconcepts.com for any questions.

Also beware of any tax scams this time of year via email and by phone.

Complex Care Family Council

Kamloops Seniors Village’s Family Council is made available to Family Members of Complex Care residents. We invite new resident’s families to join the council, participate in the meeting, and provide a voice for your loved one! Meetings are held on the 4th Monday of every month via ZOOM during COVID, excluding December July and August. The Zoom link and minutes are sent out the week prior. The meetings are self-directed by the families with KSV Leadership present for support. Our next meeting is in on Monday, February 28, 2022 at 10 AM.
