COVID-19 Community Update from Beacon Hill Villa, December 31, 2020

Dear Dedicated Friends and Family of Beacon Hill Villa,

What a busy week it has been! Preparation for Christmas took all the energy out of the team, but it was well worth it. Christmas this year was quieter than previous years, as there was no family dinner and no major activities, but we made do with what we had. For the first time, we had recreation staff on site on Christmas day who went room to room to deliver presents. It made a huge difference to a lot of the residents. They were delighted with the presents they received. With Christmas behind us, we now look forward to the New Year. Decorations for New Years’ have begun, and we can guarantee that New Years’ Day will be just as special as Christmas was!

The COVID-19 vaccination roll out is moving quickly and staff have been being called in for appointments to receive their first dose. We expect that VIHA will be starting to provide vaccinations to residents of long-term care in mid-January. This work is critically important and we are working hard with Island Health to prepare.  One thing to note: These clinics are for residents only, not staff or essential visitors.  Staff and Essential visitors will be able to book appointments through another off-site clinic.

If your loved one living at Beacon Hill Villa is not capable of consenting to a vaccine and you are their legally appointed Health Representative or Temporary  Substitute Decision Maker, you will be contacted to provide verbal consent on their behalf.

The residents will be receiving the Moderna vaccine. More information is available at the BCCDC website

We are offering scheduled alternating week visits at a time & date that works for you (once every two weeks)   OR   weekly visits which fit into our pre-set schedule calling out free spots about 3 days prior to availability. Recreation has gotten in contact with most of the designated visitors, please email tdunn@retirementconcepts.com/ or call 250-383-5447, ext. 221 if you have not been contacted.

As things will look a bit different, here is a summary of what to expect when you visit:

• There will be designated parking: ambulance parking is in front
• Please arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment
• Staff will greet you outside the front door
• Come down to rec/kitchen stairs, and be screened before you enter
• Visits will be in the recreation area. Outdoor patio visits are encouraged. There is an indoor space if required.
• Sanitize hands and wear a surgical grade masks. Required personal protective equipment will be provided by BHV.
• Visits will be approx. 40 minutes in duration.

In order to maximize our time so all families can benefit from booking a visit quickly:

• Virtual visits will still be offered. However, we are sure they will decrease.
• In person visits will take the place of fence visits.
• We have a 48-hour cancellation policy, and can easily reschedule you.
