Beautiful Locations that are “So Nice to Come Home To”
There comes a time in the lives of many people, where being in the family home alone, preparing your own meals, cleaning house, looking after the garden and keeping up the property becomes more a chore than the pleasure it once was. In many such cases, Independent Living may be the solution and the gateway to a whole new life.
Retirement Concepts has several Independent Living options to choose from – all slightly different, but in one way they are much the same, in that they offer seniors the option of spending time on their own, or joining with friends for outings, activities, conversations and companionship whenever they choose. Independent Living is truly all about choice.
Shopping on South Granville, enjoying the waterfront in Victoria, travelling to Harrison Hot Springs; or watching the beach activities while picnicking at Rathtrevor Park. These are just a sampling of the many activities that already are happening at some of our Independent Living communities.
Obviously it’s not summer all year long and in the winter some activities have to be turned indoors, but there is still plenty to do: trips to the theatre, the symphony, the movies, and lots of in house entertainment and activities.
Best of all though is that residents are encouraged to continue to do what they did at home with friends and families. Our Independent Living communities are family-oriented, and animal friendly and everyone is welcome to visit, enjoy a meal, sit in the gardens and participate in activities.
Some meals are provided with some suites equipped with full kitchens, so residents may entertain in their suites or invite friends and family to a delightful, chef prepared meal in the dining room.
Housekeeping is provided weekly, and in some buildings, a concierge service is available. Best of all if you do need any assistance, someone is available 24 hours a day for emergencies. This provides families with the reassurance that help is always near.
Independent Living is available in the Lower Mainland, Victoria, Nanaimo, Qualicum, Comox, Summerland, Kamloops, Williams Lake, Calgary and Montreal. It’s a wonderful way to meet new friends and continue with a rich and vibrant quality of life while leaving the cares of looking after a house behind.

My husband, Kurt, moved into the 24 hour care building of Nanaimo Seniors Village back in January of 2011. I was still maintaining our home and catching the bus back and forth to the Village to see Kurt every day when I made the decision to move to the Assisted Living building. I was tired of continually having to catch buses which required me to always be ‘on schedule’, having to maintain a home and always cooking meals for myself. It was the best decision I have made!
