Fronting the Fraser River to the north and Washington State to the south, Langley is located in the geographic centre of the Lower Mainland. Surrounded by Surrey to the west and Abbotsford and the lush farmland of the Fraser Valley to the east, Langley is less than an hour's drive from Vancouver.
Named after Thomas Langley, a prominent Hudson's Bay Company director, Langley is considered to be the official birthplace of British Columbia. The colony of B.C was originally proclaimed here, although the capital moved from here to New Westminster, before finally settling at Victoria on Vancouver Island.

Langley has a small city atmosphere but still is able to provide all the amenities of a large urban center. There is an abundance of shops and restaurants as well as museums, an annual Wine Festival, and a Jazz and Blues Festival. Fort Langley is perhaps the cities best known attraction. There visitors can discover what life in BC was like during the 1800s. For those more interested in the rural lifestyle there are several riding a horse racing facilities and events, a farm machinery and agriculture museum and the Cloverdale rodeo. Langley also boasts several parks with hiking trails, many golf courses, recreation centers offering a variety of sports and activities.
